Chapter 2:

Elective University

After the wedding, my aunt handed me the three best packs of Zhonghua cigarettes. “Sharon, take these to Shane Yu.”

“Okay!”
I took the cigarettes and walked towards Uncle Shane Yu. He saw me, and a gentle smile appeared on his face.

“What’s wrong? Young lady, are you apologizing for last night?”

“Uncle, I’m sorry! I accidentally dropped the bottled water yesterday. Your sister-in-law asked me to give you these cigarettes.” After saying this, I handed the cigarettes to the man in front of me.

Shane Yu’s eyes held a scrutinizing gaze. He looked at the woman in the white dress, with delicate and alluring features, tall yet well-proportioned, the most eye-catching person wherever she went—in short, a “stunner.”

I felt a little nervous, but I tried to remain calm.

Finally, he reached out and took the pack of cigarettes, casually saying, “It’s good that you know you were wrong.”

However, at that moment, he suddenly reached out and pulled me. Caught off guard, I stumbled and fell directly into his arms. He, however, caught me naturally, as if it were all perfectly normal.

Shane Yu held the girl in his arms; she smelled sweetly of roses, and her body was soft and comfortable to hold.

Shane Yu looked at me in his arms and smiled, saying, “Little girl, be careful walking!” His tone was slightly teasing.

When I was little, I found his embrace warm; but now, I felt extremely uncomfortable. I clearly realized that he had deliberately pulled me down.

Since Uncle Shane Yu said so, I couldn’t very well confront him, so I decided to play along. I forced a smile and replied, “Thank you! Uncle, I just lost my balance.”

After saying that, I forcefully pushed him away and quickly turned and left.

He watched my retreating figure, lost in thought.

After the wedding, my aunt’s husband drove me home. On the way, we ran into Uncle Shane Yu’s car, and he rolled down his window to say hello.

Shane Yu spoke first, asking, “Brother, where are you going?”

“I’m taking my niece home.”

Shane Yu said considerately, “It’s on my way, let her ride in my car. You’ve been so busy with your nephew’s wedding today.”

I grabbed my uncle’s arm and shook my head. I didn’t want to ride in Shane Yu’s car.

“Forget it, my niece is shy,” my uncle said with a smile, refusing his brother’s offer.

Uncle Shane Yu’s expression showed a hint of displeasure, but it quickly disappeared. “Look at you, your brother is like an outsider to me.”

Just then, the streetlight turned green.

“Next time!” my uncle replied, rolling up the car window.

In the car, my uncle looked at me and asked, “Sharon, are you a little afraid of my brother?”

“I’m a little afraid…” I said softly.

“My brother is my parents’ late-in-life child, so they spoil him. Plus, he’s incredibly intelligent and has a very successful career! It’s just that in relationships… well, I’m afraid of him, so let’s minimize contact.” My uncle rambled on.

“Okay! I understand!” I nodded to my uncle.

…I’m a freshman at the prestigious Beihai University in Shengcheng.

University courses are incredibly boring, like an old monk ringing a bell – tedious and dull. I don’t want to stay in the classroom for even a second after class.

I know there’s a secluded lawn behind the university’s teaching building. Every noon, my best friend Cindy Song and I would go there to lie down and clear our minds.

Today, I had just lay down on the lawn when I heard fighting. I looked in the direction of the sound and saw a group of students from another school beating up two male students from our school.

I moved closer, wanting to see what was happening.

“Sharon Yao, don’t go! It’s too scary!” Cindy Song grabbed me fearfully.

“Xin Xin, it’s alright, I’ll go check on them.”

I tried to sound calm and shouted, “Stop hitting them, classmates! I just saw a teacher coming this way.” The group of students who were hitting us stopped. The leader, a handsome man, turned and glared at me fiercely. His eyes were like those of a hungry wolf, full of malice; we were all students, yet his eyes held a murderous glint.

The leader, with his powerful aura, scrutinized us with his gaze, ordered the others to stop, and then turned and left with his gang.

At this moment, Cindy Song also came over, and the two of us helped the two who had been beaten.

I asked gently, “Are you alright? Should I take you to the infirmary?”

Both of them got up somewhat disheveled. One of them had bright eyes, delicate features, and a clean-cut short haircut. He gave me a forced smile. I estimated he was about 180cm tall and weighed around 65kg.

He sighed and said, “We’re fine, thank you!”

“It’s good that you’re alright!” I replied with a smile.

The boy who had been hit looked at me gently and asked, “Are you two students at our school too?”

“Yes, we’re in the design department.”

“What a coincidence, I’m in the law department, my name is Chris He,” the boy said, carefully introducing himself.

“The law department is full of top students, how come you…” I wanted to ask why he got into a fight.

He said in a low voice, “It’s just some embarrassing personal matter, nothing serious, just a small thing~” he explained awkwardly.

I was amused by him. “You have such a good attitude!”

Chris He also smiled awkwardly, then looked at me, his face and ears slightly red, scratching his head somewhat helplessly.

“Then you should be more careful in the future,” I kindly reminded him.

“Yes, I will. By the way, I haven’t asked your name yet?” Chris He asked with a smile.

“My name is Sharon Yao,” I replied.

“We’re quite destined to meet here.” Chris He grinned.

“Yes, what a coincidence.”

“If you need any help later, feel free to contact me anytime,” Chris He said enthusiastically.

“Okay!” I replied with a slight upturn in my voice and a smile.

Just then, the class bell rang.

“We’ll head back to class now, see you next time.” After saying goodbye to Chris He, I took Cindy Song’s hand and headed towards the classroom.

Rong Xin, with a lovesick, envious look, said, “Sharon, I must say, Chris He is really quite handsome!”

I smiled and nodded in agreement, then chimed in, “Yeah! He really does look very clean-cut. He must be an excellent student in the top class, definitely a top student!”

Cindy Song playfully nudged me and asked curiously, “So, are you attracted to him?”

I replied dismissively, “Attracted? What? Studying is the most important thing right now. Everyone’s busy preparing for graduate school entrance exams, who has time for dating! Besides, a good future is more important.”

Cindy Song seemed unsatisfied with my answer and continued, “But I feel like Chris He looks at you differently. His eyes are always sparkling when he looks at you!”

I couldn’t help but laugh out loud, teasing her, “Isn’t that how he looks at you? Does he look at you with his eyes closed?”

Cindy Song was so angry at my words that she stomped her feet and chased after me, yelling, “Sharon! You’re so mean!” We chased and played around in the hallway, our laughter echoing in the air.
