Chapter 20:

New School

Shane Yu didn’t want Sharon Yao to have any further contact with Chris He, so she immediately arranged for Sharon Yao to transfer schools upon returning. It’s just that there aren’t any girls’ schools in Shengcheng, otherwise she would have definitely arranged for Sharon Yao to get in.

Sharon Yao arrived at the new private Pomegranate High School. The teacher led her to Class 8. Pomegranate University doesn’t have departments; all students take many courses together.

Mainly because graduates are from wealthy families and can inherit their family businesses, the students there are all rich and powerful. I don’t know why Shane Yu arranged for her to be in such a class.

“New student, please introduce yourself,” the teacher said.

“My name is Sharon Yao, and I’m 18 years old,” I introduced myself briefly.

The classmates all looked at me with smiles and whispered among themselves: “She’s so beautiful! That fair skin and those big eyes!”

“She’s prettier than the school beauty!”

“She could be the new school beauty!”

“You can sit in that seat!” the teacher pointed to a seat.

I walked over. My deskmate was a chubby-cheeked, well-behaved girl, like a docile little lamb. She seemed like a good student!

I had just sat down when I must have disturbed the boy sleeping behind me. He looked up, frowning unhappily. His sharp features and menacing eyes glared at me, clearly annoyed at being disturbed.

I remembered him; he was the one who led a group of guys to beat up Chris He.

“I’m so sorry!” I apologized to the boy I’d woken up.

My deskmate tugged at me, signaling me not to talk to him.

I obediently shut up.

I pulled my chair back, keeping my distance from the person behind me. His eyes were terrifying, just like Uncle Shane Yu’s when he was angry, filled with murderous intent.

…Recently, there was an auction, and Shane Yu was attending. He was never exactly a sophisticated person, but he was very interested in these kinds of things—buying low and selling high.

He didn’t understand those famous paintings and calligraphy works, and simply couldn’t appreciate them. He always considered himself a vulgar person, completely unable to understand the works of famous artists. He wondered how tattered rags and those splashed-ink paintings could sell for astronomical prices. Later, he learned there were many intricacies involved.

Looking at the works of art praised by others, this vulgar man found none of them pleasing to the eye. His mind went blank, and he couldn’t shake the image of Sharon Yao. It had only been a day since he’d seen her, and he missed her terribly. He wondered how she was doing at her new school.

“Isn’t this President Yu?”

At that moment, a middle-aged man with a greasy face walked over and greeted Shane Yu.

Shane Yu smiled at the man before her: “President Hu, it’s rare to meet you! What have you been busy with lately?”

“Invested in a few movies, making a little money.” President Hu’s suit couldn’t hide his large belly, and he sat down next to Shane Yu. “Just small businesses, nothing compared to President Yu’s big ventures,” President Hu said modestly.

“Who in Shengcheng doesn’t know you, Mr. Yu? Your business is booming! If you have any good projects in the future, remember me, brother,” Mr. Hu said enthusiastically.

“There will be opportunities!” Shane Yu replied with a smile.

After exchanging pleasantries for a while, Shane Yu excused himself and left.

Shane Yu thought to himself: Brother, you look older than my dad. I’m thirty-two, but with my baby face, I look only around 26.

Mr. Hu is thirty-five, but looks like he’s in his fifties.

Mr. Hu isn’t a good person; he’s been eyeing Shane Yu’s third wife, and has been bringing her up ever since they met. There are many stories of exchanging lovers in the world of fame and fortune, but Shane Yu didn’t want to play such a despicable game. After all, a third wife is still a wife.

Shane Yu stood up, checked the time—it was noon—and called Sharon Yao.

“Hello,” Sharon Yao’s voice came through.

Hearing her voice melted Shane Yu’s heart: “How’s the new school? Are you settling in well?”

“Thank you! It’s great!”

“Don’t be so polite with your man. What do you want to eat tonight? I’ll take you out!”

“Anything’s fine with me!”

“Japanese food, or a seafood feast?”

“Let’s have Chinese food. I’m afraid I’m allergic to seafood,” Sharon Yao replied.

“You’ve got a rather stingy stomach. Okay, then let’s book a Chinese restaurant,” Shane Yu said with a smile.

Hanging up the phone, Shane Yu turned and went back to the auction. There, an item caught his eye.

It was a dazzling diamond ring. Although he knew nothing about art, the ring held a strange attraction for him.

“This ring seems interesting…” Shane Yu thought to himself, deciding to participate in the bidding.

After several rounds of intense bidding, Shane Yu finally won the ring for a high price of 600,000.

He looked forward to giving the ring to Sharon Yao; perhaps she would like it.

…My deskmate and I introduced ourselves. Her name was Snow Chen, and she was an excellent student.

After lunch, we took a walk on the playground.

“Sharon Yao, stay away from Tank Gu. Don’t talk to him,” Snow Chen said solemnly.

“Who’s Tank Gu?” I asked, puzzled.

“The one you disturbed while he was sleeping today,” Snow Chen explained.

“I didn’t want to disturb his sleep either,” I explained. “Won’t he hold a grudge?”

“He’s the mayor’s son in Shengcheng. He has a terrible temper and is always fighting. A few days ago, a girl confessed to him, and he yelled at her until she cried. He said he hates it when women talk to him first,” Snow Chen sighed and continued.

“That’s why I pulled you aside when you tried to talk to him. He’s not someone to mess with,” Snow Chen said gravely, as if warning me not to easily provoke this dangerous person.

I looked at Snow Chen in surprise, not expecting that the boy had such a background. “The mayor’s son…” I murmured to myself.

Snow Chen lowered her voice, as if revealing a secret, “So we’d better stay away from him to avoid getting into trouble.”

“I heard everyone in this class is from rich families, so what are you?” I asked curiously.

“My family works in the coal mines,” Snow Chen smiled slightly, a hint of pride flashing in her eyes.

“The daughter of a coal mine owner! Impressive!” I exclaimed.

“Well, nobody’s as good as Tank Gu,” Snow Chen said, frowning worriedly.

“What’s Tank Gu’s deskmate’s name?” Because that boy was also one of the guys who beat up He Guanchen.

“His name is Simon Hu, Tank Gu’s good buddy! His family owns a law firm. He’s quite cheerful and easier to talk to than Tank Gu.”

I nodded, indicating I understood. Just then, the bell rang, interrupting our conversation. We had to rush back to the classroom.

However, when I entered the classroom, I found Tank Gu looking at me with a strange expression. My heart tightened, and I quickly went to my seat.

All afternoon, I could feel that ever-present gaze, as if a pair of eyes were silently watching me from the shadows. It made me extremely uncomfortable.

Finally, school was over. I packed my bag and slowly walked out of the classroom, trying to escape this strange atmosphere. However, as I reached the stairwell, a figure suddenly appeared in front of me, blocking my way.

“Bang!” A muffled sound rang out as Tank Gu bumped into my shoulder, causing me to stumble backward and nearly fall.

I rubbed my shoulder, angrily raising my head, ready to question this guy about why he deliberately bumped into me. But when I saw who it was, I could only utter one word: “You…” Tank Gu, standing before me, was easily over 1.81 meters tall, with a slender build and clearly defined muscles, exuding power. He had a neat buzz cut, sharp features, and a cold, indifferent gaze, radiating an aura that made people hesitant to approach him.

“Have I seen you before?” Tank Gu’s voice was deep and cold, tinged with doubt. His gaze was fixed on my face, as if trying to glean something from my expression.

I hesitated, unsure whether to tell him we had met at Beihai University.

Just then, Tank Gu suddenly spoke, “At Beihai University, you lied and said the teacher was here, didn’t you?” His tone was threatening, sending a chill down my spine.

My heart tightened, and I stammered, “No, I don’t know…” Before I could finish, I turned away in a panic, wanting to escape this suffocating scene.

I quickened my pace, hoping to leave as soon as possible and escape the ever-present oppressive feeling.
