I was running when I spotted Shane Yu’s Range Rover in the crowd.
Shane Yu looked at me running and asked, “Why are you running? Is someone chasing you?”
Shane Yu got out of the car and gently wiped the sweat from my forehead, his eyes full of concern and tenderness.
I shook my head slightly and said softly, “It’s nothing.”
Just then, a stranger’s voice came from beside me: “Hey, isn’t this Mr. Yu? You’re here to pick up your child too?” It was a student’s parent, looking at Shane Yu with curiosity and a hint of surprise on his face.
Shane Yu’s expression instantly stiffened, and he replied curtly, “I’m picking up my woman!”
I felt a wave of embarrassment wash over me, my cheeks flushing red. I quickly covered my face with my hands and hurriedly got into the car.
Shane Yu had always been disgusted by people who were not very familiar with me but liked to greet me casually and speak without any tact.
The parent seemed a little surprised, but quickly recovered and said with a smile, “Look at my memory! Mr. Yu is truly young and promising; he’s only in his early twenties.”
Shane Yu’s lips curled into a slight smile before he turned and got into his car.
“Uncle…Shane Yu, can I tell the students’ parents you’re my uncle from now on?” I asked cautiously.
Shane Yu frowned slightly upon hearing my question, a hint of displeasure in his tone: “What? Do you think I’m not presentable enough?”
I quickly shook my head and explained, “Of course not! I just want to have a quiet time on campus and don’t want people gossiping behind my back. After all, we’re all still students, and some idle chatter is inevitable.”
Shane Yu was silent for a moment, then slowly nodded in agreement: “Okay, we’ll talk about it next time. But don’t get your hopes up, thinking I’ll pick you up and drop you off every day!” A smile flashed in his eyes as he finished speaking, clearly teasing me.
“That’s not what I meant,” Sharon Yao said softly.
In the Chinese restaurant.
I ate my food in small bites, occasionally sipping the winter melon and pork rib soup.
“Why are you eating so little?” Shane Yu suddenly put down his chopsticks, asking with a hint of dissatisfaction.
“I…I’m not very hungry,” I replied softly.
“Are you adjusting well to the new school?” Shane Yu asked, putting food into my bowl. He then gestured for me to eat whatever he put in my bowl.
“Yeah, it’s fine,” I said softly. “It’s just…I feel a bit out of place compared to them,” I said hesitantly.
“Oh? Why do you say that?” Shane Yu frowned, asking, puzzled.
“Did you arrange for me to be in the class of famous rich kids? But I’m just an ordinary person, and…” I paused.
“You’re my woman, how can you be ordinary?” Shane Yu interrupted me, looking at me firmly.
“But…” I was still a little worried.
“I put you in this class so you can build more connections. Learning is important, but building these connections is even more crucial. They can lend a hand in crucial moments and greatly benefit your future. It was just a small favor, you don’t need to thank me,” Shane Yu explained.
I listened to him, nodding as if I understood.
“What are your plans for this weekend?” Shane Yu continued.
“I have tutoring,” I answered truthfully.
“Cancel it, I’ll take you out,” Shane Yu said without hesitation.
I looked up at him in surprise, about to refuse.
Shane Yu then added, “I saw your recent exam results. If you perform at your normal level, you’re still far from the postgraduate entrance exam cutoff score. Even if you get a tutor, the improvement in your grades won’t be significant!”
Hearing this, Sharon Yao felt a pang of resentment, but she forced herself to reply, “You can tell me not to go to tutoring classes, but there’s no need to resort to personal attacks.” She couldn’t understand why Uncle Shane Yu always spoke with such barbs.
Looking at the girl’s aggrieved expression, Shane Yu’s lips curled into a faint smile. He slowly replied, “I’m just telling the truth, it’s just that my words might not sound pleasant.”
With that, Shane Yu took the ring he had just won at the auction from the gift box and handed it to Sharon Yao. “This is what I bought at the auction today, do you like it?”
Sharon Yao looked at the dazzling, valuable ring before her, somewhat surprised. But then she remembered that such rings were usually given to one’s lover. So, she asked curiously, “Isn’t this ring supposed to be for the wife?”
Shane Yu smiled and replied firmly, “You are my wife! Here, let me help you put it on.” He reached out to take Sharon Yao’s hand.
Seeing this, Sharon Yao quickly withdrew her hand. She didn’t know how to react to this sudden act of intimacy.
When Shane Yu saw Sharon Yao pull her hand away, the smile vanished instantly, replaced by a dark expression.
Sharon Yao was startled by Shane Yu’s gaze; she knew her reaction might have angered him.
So, she quickly explained, “I really can’t accept such an expensive gift, and if my mother finds out, she’ll definitely ask why.”
“Take what I give you, no matter how expensive it is, it’s because I want to give it to you! As for your mother, I suggest you make our relationship public; she’ll find out sooner or later anyway!”
Sharon Yao remained silent. What was Shane Yu thinking? Anyone who publicly acknowledges their relationship with him, becoming his mistress, is considered honorable; they’d easily have their backs pierced by gossip.
Shane Yu forcefully pulled Sharon Yao’s chubby little hand, as if it had no bones, and slipped the sparkling diamond ring onto her finger.
“It fits quite well!” Shane Yu admired with satisfaction.
Sharon Yao asked, “Can I ask how much this gift costs?”
“Only 600,000. If you like it and behave well in front of me, there will be more gifts in the future,” Shane Yu said with a smile.
“600,000?” A look of shock appeared on Sharon Yao’s face.
In 2008, 600,000 was more expensive than Sharon Yao’s house.
“Shane Yu, this gift is too expensive, I can’t accept it.” She took off the ring, intending to return it to Shane Yu.
The moment Shane Yu saw her take off the ring, his face darkened. His eyes turned icy as she said she wanted it back. He had already tried his best not to get angry, but she was just jumping on his nerves. He had put the ring on her finger himself, and she was taking it off so easily.
Sharon Yao’s face hardened, and he said coldly, “What’s given to you is yours. Don’t make me say it a second time.”
Sharon Yao was a little scared, but still insisted, “This is too precious. I really can’t accept it.”
Sharon Yao suddenly stood up, her tall figure looming over Sharon Yao, exuding a sense of oppression. He stared intently into her eyes and said, word by word, “You’d better behave!”
Sharon Yao was terrified by his imposing presence, and she couldn’t help but tremble, tears welling up in her eyes.
Looking at her pitiful state, Shane Yu felt a surge of irritation. He took a deep breath, trying to control his emotions, and said slowly, “Alright, stop crying. Once it’s given away, there’s no reason to take it back.”
Sharon Yao looked up at him, her eyes brimming with tears, and nodded.
Shane Yu sighed helplessly, pulled her into his arms, gently stroked her hair, and comforted her, “Okay, don’t cry. It’s just a small gift, representing my feelings. If you feel uneasy, you can repay me in other ways.”
Hearing this, Sharon Yao felt a little flustered. She didn’t know how to repay Shane Yu, and could only silently lean against him for the time being.
Shane Yu was annoyed. The ring he bought for 600,000 hadn’t even made this little girl happy. She was truly ungrateful! If it were one of his other two wives receiving such an expensive gift, they would be happy for more than a week!
