Chapter 35:

Shopping

It was Shane Yu’s first time taking care of a woman, and he was a little flustered, but thankfully Sharon Yao wasn’t being coy.

“Let’s go eat!” Shane Yu said gently in her ear.

“I need some clothes!”

Shane Yu found one of his shirts and tossed it to her: “Wear this for now. After we eat, I’ll take you out to buy some new ones!”

I took a couple of bites and asked curiously, “How did you talk to my family?”

“Normal communication. We’ve done everything we could. You’re only mine, Shane Yu’s! Your parents know about our relationship.”

Shane Yu said, continuing to put food in my bowl.

“Eat something nutritious, don’t just drink porridge.”

“Can I go home today?” I asked, eating the food Shane Yu had put in my bowl.

“With all those marks on your body, you need to rest before going home. I’ve already talked to your family. Call your mom later, and remember to be careful what you say, so she doesn’t worry about you every day!” Shane Yu continued to put food in my bowl, her words carrying a hint of threat.

“I know!” I nodded in agreement.

“Call your mom here after you finish eating!” Shane Yu wanted to hear her conversation, since Sharon Yao wasn’t behaving very well yet.

Sharon Yao called her mother. Knowing Shane Yu was with her daughter, Sharon Yao’s mother didn’t say much, just normal inquiries about her health. Sharon Yao didn’t say anything Shane Yu wouldn’t like to hear.

He was quite satisfied, seeing Sharon Yao hang up.

Shane Yu lit a cigarette, taking a puff.

Sharon Yao winced from the smoke and immediately stubbed it out.

“Are you feeling better after applying the medicine?”

“Much better…”

“Then I’ll take you to buy some new clothes!”

Shane Yu took Sharon Yao to a boutique, wanting to buy her some new clothes. However, Sharon Yao seemed a little out of sorts, so Shane Yu had the sales assistant bring out items to try on one by one, allowing her to choose her favorite styles.

From pajamas and coats to underwear, shoes, and bags. Buying everything in bulk—this shopping style was downright nouveau riche behavior.

“Shane Yu, that’s enough! Stop buying! The car’s almost overflowing,” Sharon Yao gently tugged at Shane Yu’s arm, trying to stop his shopping spree.

“Okay! I’ll just buy these for now!” Shane Yu smiled and headed to the checkout. He also instructed the sales assistant to take all the purchased clothes directly to his car.

The sales assistant, seeing such a wealthy, gentle, and handsome man, couldn’t help but have her eyes sparkle, and her voice softened. However, she noticed that the man’s gaze never lingered on her; his eyes were only on the somewhat frail yet incredibly beautiful young woman before him.

Shane Yu noticed Sharon Yao glance at the bubble tea shop in the mall and asked, “Want a drink? I’ll buy you one!”

“Yes! I’ll have a lemon wheatgrass.” Sharon Yao nodded.

Shane Yu quickly returned with six different flavored drinks. “Try all of these. I think your lemon wheatgrass drink is too green; it might not taste very good.” I took the pile of drinks, a helpless smile on my face. I thought to myself, who could drink so much at once? But I still thanked Shane Yu.

We walked towards the parking lot, but Shane Yu’s phone kept ringing. “Brother Yu, come over, something’s come up at the company,” Ian Shen’s voice came through the phone.

“Can’t you handle this?” Shane Yu growled. His plan was to take Sharon Yao back to the villa so he could admire his new clothes.

“Come over, Brother Yu,” Ian Shen continued.

Shane Yu hung up, turned to Sharon Yao, and said helplessly, “Something urgent at the company, I have to go. Come with me.”

I nodded obediently.

Shengcheng Real Estate Zhongyang Building office building, I estimate over 60 floors. The 16th, 17th, and 18th floors—those three floors all belong to Shane Yu’s company.

The elevator went straight upstairs. Because I wasn’t feeling well, Shane Yu kept his arm around my waist. When Shane Yu and I entered the company, everyone bowed respectfully to him, showing him great respect.

It was also the first time they had seen their boss dressed in Prada casual sportswear. His handsome, baby-faced man wore a smile and seemed very approachable.

The girl standing next to him was even more striking. She had fair skin, bright, sparkling eyes, and exquisitely beautiful features. Even without makeup, she was strikingly elegant. She was tall and slender, yet her figure was perfectly proportioned. She would definitely be the most eye-catching person in the crowd.

“Brother Yu, I… my sister-in-law.” Ian Shen ran over, hesitated after seeing me.

I nodded politely, acknowledging her.

“Lucy Lin.” Shane Yu called out.

A pretty young woman immediately ran over.

“Take Sharon Yao to the conference room to rest for a while. Do whatever she needs,” Shane Yu carefully instructed. The girl called Lucy Lin immediately replied, “Okay, Mr. Yu.”

She led me into a huge and comfortable conference room.

Shane Yu glared at Ian Shen, sensing this was a tricky situation.

Shane Yu walked into the chairman’s office and plopped down in the boss’s chair.

Ian Shen immediately followed, anxiously saying, “Brother Yu, the company’s former financial manager, Liu Zi, is dead.”

Shane Yu frowned, his expression questioning, “When did this happen?”

“This morning.”

Shane Yu pondered, “It has nothing to do with us, what are you afraid of?”

“His last phone call before he died was to me. He threatened me with company documents, demanding I transfer 500,000 yuan to him.”

Shane Yu’s face darkened, his brows furrowed, a cold glint flashing in his eyes. He said in a low voice, “What documents?”

“It’s…the tax department…” Ian Shen stammered.

Shane Yu angrily rebuked, “The company’s taxes are perfectly fine! I told you that those who achieve great things pay attention to details, how can you not even handle one employee properly!” Shane Yu slammed his fist on the table, roaring furiously.

“How can I entrust the logistics company to you with this kind of attitude?” Shane Yu continued, his voice like thunder, echoing throughout the entire floor, making everyone’s ears ring and their hearts race with unease.

Ian Shen nodded repeatedly, filled with remorse.

“He has a document in his hand, I’m afraid…” Ian Shen continued softly.

Shane Yu leaned back in his chair, rubbing his temples, pondering to himself: Liu Zi is usually honest and reliable, how could he suddenly do something like this? Could someone have instructed him?

“Go look for the documents at his house again. Even if you really can’t find them, and it really leads to our tax records, we can just pay the difference. Even if I have to pay, I, Shane Yu, won’t be threatened by anyone. Remember, anything that can be solved with money isn’t a real problem.” Shane Yu continued, his voice as calm as a still lake.

“Brother Yu, I understand!” Ian Shen nodded knowingly.

Shane Yu composed himself, picked up a cigarette, lit it, and started smoking. “Did Liu Zi commit suicide?”

“It was me… after the argument, he was hit by a truck while running away and died instantly.” Ian Shen said.

“Didn’t the police contact you?” Shane Yu then asked.

“They did, but they were all our own people. They released me after taking my statement, and his death was truly an accident.” Ian Shen explained. “I’m just afraid the documents will fall into someone else’s hands.”

Shane Yu took a deep breath, trying to calm himself down. “I need to investigate this matter personally. See if there are any clues. Also, keep the news under wraps; don’t let the outside world know about this to avoid unnecessary panic.”

“Okay!” Ian Shen wiped the cold sweat from his forehead.

“What, Liu Zi’s death scared you? We didn’t do it, what are you afraid of?” Shane Yu continued, displeased.

“Brother Yu, I understand!” Ian Shen said respectfully.

Shane Yu elegantly stubbed out his cigarette in the ashtray.

Ian Shen nodded, thinking calmly. Shane Yu stood up, patted his brother on the shoulder, and walked out of the chairman’s office.
