Shane Yu bought my family many expensive gifts and a case of Moutai liquor. He took me home with him.
As soon as I entered the house, my mother greeted me with a welcoming smile.
Shane Yu instructed his assistant and driver to put the gifts down.
“Sharon, come and let Mom see.” My mother happily took my hand.
Shane Yu came in and greeted his mother.
“Oh, Shane Yu’s here too! Come in, come in,” his mother warmly welcomed him. He went straight to the sofa and sat down.
“Her dad, come quick, Sharon Yao’s back!” his mother called to his father.
His father came in with a serious expression. Shane Yu smiled and greeted Sharon Yao’s father.
His father nodded at Shane Yu, and the two of them sat in the living room, chatting briefly.
Then, his mother turned to him and asked, “Sharon, how long have you been with Shane Yu?”
“We’ve been together for about a month.” His mother took his hand and asked in a slightly excited, low voice, “Do you really like him?”
Thinking of Shane Yu’s threatening words, he nodded. “I like him!”
“What do you like about him? You and him…”
“Well, it’s all happened. I like that he’s handsome! And he’s pretty good to me!” he replied casually.
“Is he a womanizer? What if he betrays you?” Mom said worriedly, her brows furrowed deeply.
“Mom, if he betrays me, I don’t think it’ll matter,” I replied, my voice as calm as a still lake, without a ripple. Because I don’t love him, it doesn’t matter.
“Huh?” Mom probably didn’t understand my meaning, looking at me in surprise, her mouth forming an “O”.
“Mom, we fell in love on our own. We can’t predict how things will turn out. He’s very good to me now, so don’t worry!” I replied, my voice as gentle as a spring breeze brushing against her ear.
“Sharon, Shane Yu brought so many expensive gifts today. Your dad and I don’t need them. Take them back!” Mom looked at the gifts, her brows furrowing slightly.
“Knowing his personality, he probably won’t take them back,” I replied calmly, my voice very even. “You can keep them. If you don’t like them, give them away.” Mom was cooking, intending to have Shane Yu and me eat with her. “No need, Auntie, we just finished eating.” Shane Yu responded with a gentle smile, her voice as soothing as a melodious piano piece.
Shane Yu gently took my hand, and I immediately understood. “Mom, no need to cook. I’ll go get some clothes. I have early classes at school tomorrow, so I’ll go back with Shane Yu first and come back in a few days.”
“You two aren’t married yet? Living together, isn’t that a bit inappropriate?” My dad spoke slowly, his voice low and full of worry.
I felt awkward hearing this, but Shane Yu seemed unconcerned and spoke very naturally.
“Uncle, it’s because my place is close to Sharon Yao’s school, so it’s convenient for me to pick her up and drop her off every day. We plan to get married, and as soon as she’s old enough, I’ll register our marriage.” He replied with a smile, without the slightest discomfort, his voice as gentle and reassuring as a spring breeze.
My mom, seeing Shane Yu and me holding hands, assumed we were deeply in love. “Since Sharon Yao is going, I have nothing more to say. Shane Yu, I beg you to take good care of Sharon Yao.”
“Please don’t worry, I will take good care of her.” Shane Yu took my hand, gazing at me tenderly as she made her promise.
Looking at my parents, I said against my will, “Please don’t worry! Shane Yu and I will be very happy!” These words made me feel very uncomfortable.
My performance pleased Shane Yu. He smiled and took my hand in the car, saying, “You can go to school tomorrow.”
I quickly thanked him.
Shane Yu gently patted my head and said softly, “You don’t need to be so polite with your husband.”
Then Shane Yu asked, “Do you have enough money?”
“My mother gave me money; it’s enough for me.”
However, Shane Yu wasn’t reassured. He took a card from his wallet and handed it to me: “The PIN for this card is my birthday. My woman can only spend my money.”
I declined, “I have enough money, and you’ve already bought me many very expensive clothes. I don’t want to accept your money anymore.”
Hearing this, Shane Yu’s face instantly darkened. He said coldly, “Didn’t you hear what I just said?”
Afraid of angering him, I quickly took the bank card and thanked him.
Actually, I didn’t want to spend his money because I knew our relationship was only temporary, and I would break up with him sooner or later. I didn’t want to owe him too much.
Shane Yu seemed to sense my thoughts and again reminded me to listen to him next time.
I obediently nodded to show I understood.
Shane Yu then asked, “Did you bring back the diamond ring I gave you?”
“I brought it back.” I figured I’d be more at ease leaving it at his place, so I considered it a return gift.
“You can wear the ring when you’re not in school; after all, it’s a gift from your husband,” Shane Yu continued.
“Okay!” Back at the villa, Shane Yu kept hugging and kissing me, making my cheeks as red as tomatoes.
I nestled in his arms and said, “Can I get some rest tonight? I have class tomorrow.”
Shane Yu noticed the displeasure in my eyes. He thought for a moment and slowly said, “I’ll understand, but I don’t like hearing you say things like that, understand?”
“I know.”
Shane Yu knew Sharon Yao’s little scheme, but he was quite satisfied with her behavior today! Giving her some rest was acceptable.
He wanted to make time for his second wife. “I’m going to Shirley Xiu’s villa next door today. You can find me there if you need anything.”
“Okay!” I agreed. But in my heart, I thought Shane Yu was such a jerk! I returned to school. Snow Chen rushed over and gave me a big hug. “Sharon, you’re finally back! I missed you so much!”
I hugged Snow Chen back and patted her head. “I missed you too!”
Lunchtime arrived quickly. Snow Chen and Felix Xu, Charlotte Wang and Simon Hu, sat together sweetly in pairs, like four bright stars adorning the vast sky of the cafeteria.
I was left with Tank Gu, and the atmosphere was awkward, as if the air itself could freeze, making me feel like I was sitting on pins and needles.
Tank Gu’s tone was icy, as if it could freeze the air, as he asked, “Are you feeling unwell?”
“It’s just lunch, what’s wrong with me?” I said, but inwardly I just wanted to finish eating and leave as quickly as possible.
Tank Gu sneered and continued, “I heard you’re Chris He’s ex-girlfriend?”
My heart skipped a beat, as if struck by lightning. How did he know? “Who told you that?”
“You can find out by asking around at your old school.” I frowned and blurted out, annoyed, “Then why are you asking me?”
Tank Gu said, somewhat speechless, “I’m asking about Chris He.”
