Chapter 47:

The Thief

A sharp glint flashed in Summer Wen’s eyes.
Her lips curled into a sly smile as she stepped forward,
snatched the diamond ring from the counter,
and tucked it casually into her palm before walking out of the restroom—
as if nothing had happened.

Meanwhile, Vivian Wen, after resting for a few minutes,
straightened her shoulders and prepared to mingle again.
But just as she took a few steps forward,
someone slammed hard into her shoulder.
“Sister, can’t you watch where you’re going?”
Summer’s mocking tone dripped with fake innocence.
Vivian’s patience snapped.
She’d endured enough tonight.
Without a word, she stepped forward and stomped hard on Summer’s foot.
“Ah—!”
Summer shrieked, face twisting in pain.
Vivian smiled sweetly.
“Oh, dear sister, maybe next time you should watch where you’re stepping—
your foot landed right under my heel.”
Summer’s fury flashed,
but then a calculating smile slid back into place.
At that exact moment, a commotion erupted.
Mrs. Li came running out of the restroom,
panic written across her face.
“My ring—it’s gone! Someone stole my ring!”
Heads turned instantly.
The host of the event hurried over.
“Madam, what happened?”
“I took it off to wash my hands,” she said breathlessly.
“Then my phone rang. When I came back, it was gone!”
The host’s face paled.
“Close the doors,” he ordered sharply to the staff.
“No one leaves. Whoever took Mrs. Li’s ring, please return it at once.”
Whispers rippled through the ballroom.
Then, out of nowhere, Summer Wen grabbed Vivian’s wrist.
“It was her!” she declared righteously.
“I saw her come out of the restroom just now—sneaky and nervous!”
Vivian’s eyes hardened.
She understood immediately.
The bump earlier—
Summer had planted the ring in her bag.
“Her?” Mrs. Li blinked, visibly stunned.
“That’s impossible…”
The crowd stirred.
“Who is she?”
“No idea, never seen her.”
“I think she’s Huasheng Entertainment’s new assistant—Sister Liang introduced her earlier.”
“What’s a low-level assistant doing at an elite gala anyway?”
Sister Liang pushed through the circle, alarmed.
“She wouldn’t! Vivian isn’t that kind of person!”
Summer crossed her arms, voice sharp as glass.
“Oh really? She’s just a new assistant—
do you think she could resist temptation?
That ring’s worth millions!
She could work ten years and never afford it!”
“Besides,” she added, turning to the crowd,
“everyone here is someone important.
Who else would dare steal except her?”
The room filled with murmurs of disgust and doubt.
Upstairs, Victor Wen leaned forward, uneasy.
“Should I go down?”
Simon Min didn’t move.
“Not yet.”
His gaze was fixed on Vivian.
He wanted to see how she would handle it.

Summer smirked, folding her arms.
“Vivian Wen, everyone’s watching.
If you’re innocent, open your bag and show us.
Let’s see if the ring’s inside.”
Vivian met her eyes calmly—
and smiled.
“You’re right,” she said softly.
“The ring is in my bag.”
The entire room erupted.
“Unbelievable!”
“Pretty face, dirty hands!”
“A thief at a Huasheng gala—disgraceful!”
“She’ll be blacklisted before dawn!”
Mrs. Li’s expression darkened with disappointment.
But Vivian stood tall, voice steady.
“Yes, the ring is in my bag—
but I didn’t steal it.
Someone planted it there.”
“Oh please,” someone scoffed.
“Who’d bother framing a newbie assistant?”
Summer sneered.
“The ring’s in your bag and you’re still lying?
You don’t belong in Huasheng Entertainment.
Get out!”
The crowd took up the chant—
“Thief! Get out!”
Vivian looked around at the angry faces,
then opened her bag herself.
At the bottom lay the glittering diamond ring.
She took a napkin from the table,
carefully lifting it without touching it directly.
Gasps and mutters swept the hall.
Yet Vivian’s eyes were cold and unwavering.
She raised the ring high and said clearly:
“I can prove who the real thief is.”
