Vivian Wen merely watched her lose control before her, eyes cold and expressionless, her composure utterly undisturbed.
She pushed Summer Wen away and raised a pleasant smile. “Don’t call me that. Who’s your sister? I don’t have a thief like you for a sister.”
As soon as she finished speaking, several security guards came over, restrained Summer Wen, grabbed her arms, and dragged her out by force.
Summer Wen turned back unwillingly and cursed, “Vivian Wen, just you wait! I’ll never let you off!”
After Summer Wen was expelled, the banquet hall gradually returned to calm.
Mrs. Li walked up to Vivian Wen, her tone slightly apologetic. “Young lady, you’ve been wronged tonight.”
Vivian Wen smiled sweetly, as if entirely unbothered. “I’m fine. That ring was a gift from Director Yunye Li for your anniversary—it must mean a lot to you. I can imagine how frightened you must’ve been.”
Mrs. Li’s face softened into a gentle smile. She thought the young woman before her was not only thoughtful but also articulate and poised—steady and intelligent even under pressure. A rare talent indeed.
“Oh, by the way, you haven’t told me your name yet,” Mrs. Li asked kindly.
“Vivian Wen.” Vivian smiled and extended her hand. “It’s an honor to meet you.”
Mrs. Li took her hand, saying with quiet significance, “Vivian Wen, I’ll remember you.”
At that moment, sitting upstairs and having witnessed the entire scene, Simon Min’s lips curved faintly. His deep eyes lingered on the calm, clever woman below.
After seeing Mrs. Li off, Vivian Wen finally let out a breath, her body feeling as if it had fallen apart from exhaustion.
“Tired?” A voice sounded beside her.
Vivian turned her head—it was Victor Wen. She quickly straightened and greeted him respectfully, “Mr. Wen.”
Victor’s gaze drifted upward, catching sight of Simon Min leaning against the railing above, and then returned to Vivian with a genial smile. “You handled everything very well tonight. I heard you’re new to the company—an assistant manager, right?”
“Yes.”
“I think you have great potential.” Victor smiled, all the while glancing occasionally toward the second floor.
Vivian felt flattered and a little nervous, twisting her fingers unconsciously. “Th… thank you, Mr. Wen.”
“Come on, I’ll take you to meet some well-known directors and producers in the circle.”
“Ah?” Vivian stared at Victor in surprise. She was just a small assistant—she never expected the president himself would personally introduce her to such powerful figures.
Mr. Wen was so kind and approachable! Vivian’s impression of him improved instantly.
However, all of this had actually been Simon Min’s idea. By Victor’s usual temperament, he would rather spend his time drinking with beautiful women than waste a moment of effort on a mere assistant.
Victor led Vivian around the hall, introducing her to prominent figures in the industry, and publicly expressed his appreciation for her.
Seeing the president treat an assistant with such unusual regard, the big names all looked at Vivian Wen with newfound respect. Combined with her composure during the crisis earlier and her perfectly balanced attire and smile, she became impossible to forget.
Sister Liang watched Vivian chatting with those elites, feeling both comforted and slightly wistful.
Perhaps Vivian truly was different from her—
perhaps she could walk a path unlike her own.
By the time the banquet ended, it was close to midnight.
Vivian Wen finally relaxed after an entire evening of tension and walked out of the hall beside Sister Liang.
“Vivian Wen, I’m going to resign,” Sister Liang suddenly said, her voice tinged with quiet melancholy.
“Resign?” Vivian stopped in her tracks, surprised, turning to look at her.
Sister Liang nodded, forcing a smile. “I’ve thought it through. I’m not suited for this industry. It’s time for me to leave.”
“But…” Vivian’s heart tightened with reluctance. Sister Liang was not only her superior but also her mentor—she had taught her so much.
“You don’t need to persuade me. This isn’t a bad thing. At my age, work and dreams aren’t so important anymore. I’m tired. It’s time I enjoy life a little.” Sister Liang patted Vivian’s shoulder, speaking earnestly, just as she had on Vivian’s first day when she messed up that airport pickup. “The entertainment world is deep and murky—it’s not something we can easily stir. But you’re different, Vivian. You might really make it.”
Then she lifted her head toward the round moon hanging high in the sky, her eyes glimmering. “Vivian Wen, the regrets I couldn’t fulfill, I’ll leave to you. Don’t let me down.”
“Sister Liang…”
“Oh, come now, don’t make it sound like we’re parting forever.” Sister Liang ruffled Vivian’s hair. “Even if we’re not colleagues anymore, we can still be friends. You can always call me if you need anything.”
Vivian sniffed lightly and nodded.
Sister Liang stopped walking and jerked her chin forward. “Your boyfriend’s here to pick you up.”
