Vivian Wen didn’t want to waste words with her and walked straight out, pretending not to hear.
Seeing Vivian Wen’s cold demeanor, George Wen wanted to get angry, but considering their father-daughter relationship, he held back.
He stopped Vivian Wen.
“If you don’t like Ryan Lu, you can tell your father. I’m not forcing you to marry her. But you can’t do that kind of thing at the engagement party. Not only did you embarrass your Aunt Zhao in front of so many people, but you also made me lose face!”
Vivian Wen took a deep breath and turned to face her father.
“Dad, I used to think you were quite smart, but how did you become so confused! Open your eyes and see! Helen Zhao and Ryan Lu conspired to harm the Wen family. Maybe the child she’s carrying isn’t even yours. Being with this woman will only ruin you sooner or later!”
Helen Zhao immediately said, her eyes reddening, “Vivian Wen, I’m a member of the Wen family! How could I harm the Wen family! I know you’re afraid this child will threaten your position in the Wen family, that’s why you’re framing me like this, but the child is innocent…”
“Whether I’ve framed you or not, you know best in your heart. Stop pretending. Your acting might fool my dad, but it won’t fool me at all,” Vivian Wen sneered.
Helen Zhao, her face contorted with heartbreak, threw herself into George Wen’s arms and sobbed uncontrollably, “George, do you really have to drive me to my death to prove my innocence?! I don’t care about dying, but what about my baby? He’s not even born yet, and just because he has a mother like me, he has to suffer this humiliation!”
Provoked by Helen Zhao’s words, George Wen became convinced that Vivian Wen didn’t want Helen Zhao’s child to be born and thus threatened her, which was why she was targeting Helen Zhao. He became even angrier.
“Vivian Wen, I always thought that although you were a bit stubborn, you were at least kind at heart. I never imagined you would fabricate such a ridiculous lie to slander someone for your own selfish reasons. You’ve disappointed me so much!”
Vivian Wen was even more disappointed than George Wen.
“Dad, if Mom were here, she would believe me.”
Upon hearing Vivian Wen mention her mother, George Wen’s suppressed anger erupted. He pointed at her nose, glaring at her through gritted teeth, “Have you forgotten that when I divorced your mother, she was the one who abandoned you, taking your brother with her? All these years, I’ve raised you with such hardship! And you dare mention her to me? If you think this house is too small for you, then leave! Go find your mother and see if she’ll want you!”
In George Wen’s eyes, Vivian Wen’s mother had abandoned her; he was the one who kept her by his side and raised her.
All these years, although Vivian Wen was stubborn and often argued with him, he still loved her the most. He never expected that now, she would be so ungrateful as to mention her mother to him.
It was as if he were less than the mother who abandoned her! George Wen was unaware that when his ex-wife left, she had asked Vivian Wen if she wanted to come with him. Vivian Wen, feeling her father was too lonely, decided to stay.
Her mother came from a wealthy family and was successful in her career; she could have had a better life with her.
But Vivian Wen resolutely chose to stay by George Wen’s side. As a child, she naively believed that her mother still had her brother, but her father, without her, would have nothing.
For her father’s sake, she had said so many sharp and hurtful things to her mother. When he forbade her to contact her mother, she truly cut off all contact with her.
Later, her father’s company grew larger and larger, and he became increasingly busy. After Helen Zhao married into the family with her daughter, even the little time her father had left for her was halved.
Now, her father was even trying to kick her out of the house for Helen Zhao, unwilling to give her even a shred of trust!
It felt as if a sharp steel needle had pierced her heart, causing Vivian Wen excruciating pain.
She stared coldly at her father, who seemed so unfamiliar.
Vivian Wen sniffed, trying her best to calm herself.
“You really want me to leave?”
“If you’re not leaving, apologize properly to your Aunt Zhao!”
George Wen wanted Vivian Wen to back down, but she stubbornly held her head high.
“Apologize to her? Dream on!”
The moment she turned away, tears she had been holding back burst forth like a flood, soaking the floor, but Vivian Wen didn’t hesitate at all.
Seeing that she really wanted to leave, George Wen flew into a rage.
“Just as stubborn as your mother! If you leave, don’t come back!”
